CN2WW - ARRL DX CW CONTEST

We are currently planning to take part in the ARRL DX CW in the M/S category, QTH will be CN2DX location in Dar-Bouazza (near Casablanca).
Nous prevoyons de participer au prochain ARRL DX CW en catégorie M/S depuis le QTH habituel de CN2DX à Dar-Bouazza (près de Casablanca).

Foreseen equipment
Taking into account the weight limitations (travel by plane) the equipment will be limited to:
- 10/15/20 steppIR: 3elts tribander
- 40: 2elts wire-beam on fiber poles
- 80; 2elts wire-beam on fiber poles
-160: dipole
All antennas on the terrasse of the "beach house" some 25 to 35m agl, in front of the Atlantic ocean.
- Trx: IC7000 and amplifier

Other details:
- Arrival on 14/2 return on 21/2
- Taking into account the limited time frame, and that the station has to be built from scratch and dismantled after the contest, we will have limited time for peri-contest activity. However, we will try to have some activiry focusing on non-US/VE stations on friday and monday
- Conventional QSL via EA7FTR or electronic confrimation through LOTW.

True non-assisted entry !

Conditions not very good on saturday; band closed to states before 20:00Z. Improved on Sunday with the band remaining open after 22:00Z, but all counted I am missing quite a few hours of traffic compaired to AF stations located further south. Condx to JA were hard with very short window and weak signals, but Long-Path worked quite OK on sunday morning at sunrise.
Except the condx, everything worked close to the perfection (except a thunderstorm during the first night - but the band was nearly dead!). As expected the 2 antennas setup together with the bi-directionnal feature of the SteppIR gave me a real boost when the band was open...
Thanks to Mohamed CN8PA and Said CN8WW for their assistance in the Installation/desinstallation of the antennas and to my old friend Denis for the fun we had along those 2 weeks and this long trip by sea...


Conditions médiocres le samedi, la bande fermant avant 20 heures. Un peu mieux le dimanche avec la bande ouverte jusqu'après 22:00z, mais tout compté il me manque quelques précieuses heures de tfc par rapport aux stations Africaines, situées plus au sud. Les condtions avec le Japon, furent difficiles le samedi, avec une fenêtre très courte et des petits niveaux de signaux, mais le long-path s'est avéré payant le dimanche matin au lever du jour.
A part les condtions de propagation tout a fonctionné à merveille (seul soucis un orage pendant la première nuit, mais à une heure ou la bande était "quasi-morte"!).
Comme espéré la configuration avec les 2 antennes, plus la position bi-directionelle de la steppIR, se sont avérés de précieux atouts quand la bande était ouverte.
Merci a Mohamed CN8PA et Said CN8WW pour leur coup de main précieux au montage/démontage des antennes. Merci également a mon vieux copain Denis, pour les bons moments passés durant ces 2 semaines, et ce long voyage par la mer...

Le meilleur de mon activité "hors contest": un peu plus de 400 QSO's dont 250 Nord-americains sur la topband dans la nuit du 27 au 28 Novembre. (ant: dipole "ïnvisible" en fil fin à 10m au dessus de la terrasse)
A bit more than 400 QSO's, with 250 NA-stations during the Nov 27 to 28 night is the highlight of my peri-contest activity. (ant: invisible, thin wire dipole 10m above the terrasse)

The spaghetti roll is used to phase / unphase the antennas by 45 degrees step from 0 à 315 degrees.

CN2WW-Nov06: the trip...

From Sete to Tangiers by sea. Over 700 Nautical miles at the average speed of 17.5 knots: A bit more than 40 hours of navigation.
De Sète à Tangers par la mer. Plus de 700 Miles Nautiques à la vitesse moyenne de 17.5 noeuds: Un peu plus de 40 heures en mer.

The Fantaasia an old Estonian ferry, built in 1978, and rented with the crew, to the COMANAV.
